Truth or Dare is a fun new meme hosted by Jenna over at Jenna Does Books that is a bookish challenge based on the game of the same name. Chose truth for a discussion type question or prompt, or if you are feeling a bit more adventurous, chose dare! You can even choose both tasks if you like. So…Truth or Dare?
For this week’s ToD I picked:
Yes! Finally a Dare! How could I not do this Dare? I had to make my ToD post a day late since I didn’t get to do my Halloween until last night, and it was a ton of fun. I LOVE LOVE LOVE HAlloween. Who doesn’t love to dress up?? This year, since I am slightly broke, I went for something easy and fun. Since nobody at the Halloween party were readers, they had no clue who I was, but I didn’t care, I did, and my readers will 🙂 So, this year I was….
Karou from Daughter of Smoke and Bone!
And guys? That’s a real wishbone! I’m so devoted, I bought a chicken and got the wishbone from it. I’d never taken a wishbone out of anything, so it was kind of weird. Also, getting all my hair into the wig cap was quite a wrestling match. I have hair down to my waist and had to wrangle it all up for the wig, so that was interesting.
My Karou tattoos (and one of my own)! I know I am going to have these for the next week since they are in permanent marker, but that’s ok because I am on vacation for the next week. I drew it on with pen first and traced back over it with the marker. I’m so horrible at drawing there was no way I was going to do permanent marker first. The party host loves my hamsas even though he had no clue what they were for.
A shot of the other hand. Ignore all of the background messes. I was doing self shots in my room before the party. Last night was a ton of fun and we all laughed so hard. I work with most of the people there last night and it was fun seeing them dressed up – Batman, Joker and Bane were there and there was a fun round of games with good guys vs bad guys. It was so much fun and I can’t wait until next Halloween!
Cover Crush is my meme here at On The Shelf where beautiful and eye-catching covers are spotlighted! Any cover can be showcased whether it be old or new, read or still sitting in your TBR stack. Please join in, link up and enjoy some beautiful covers!
Six weeks after her arrival on the Surface, Evelyn Winters is no closer to unlocking the memories lost in her subconscious than she was when she first came. Isolated in a strange new society, Evie has only Gavin Hunter to remind her of who she once was.
But even with a clean slate, it’s easy to see that Evie doesn’t fit in on the Surface. And as her differences make her feel more and more alone, she can’t help but yearn for that place she doesn’t remember: the isolated city hidden in the depths of the ocean. Elysium. Home.
But she can’t exactly tell Gavin what she’s feeling. Not when he’s the one who helped her escape Elysium in the first place, and has the scars to prove it. Though the doctors say otherwise, Gavin believes that Evie just needs time. And if her memories don’t come back, well, maybe she’s better off not remembering her past.
But the decision may be out of their hands when Evie’s ever-elusive memories begin to collide with reality. People and images from her past appear in the most unlikely places, haunting her, provoking her…and making her seem not only strange but dangerous.
Evie and Gavin can’t wait around for her memories to return. They’ll have to journey across the Outlands of the Surface to find help, and in the end, their search may just lead them back to the place it all started…
Why I’m Crushing:
I really liked the first cover in this series, and I really like this one, too. My favorite thing about this cover is the fact that she is holding a rose for this cover as well. It’s almost like it is a reminder of her world. Everything else on this cover is from the world above. I also like the light tones, it makes it like a sunrise, which Evie had never seen before until she came to the surface. She is in two very different places between the first and second book and I like how the covers show it. What do you think of my Cover Crush? Share your Cover Crush, too!
