This week’s topic: A Holiday Story

The Christmas Wedding Cover The Christmas Wedding
James Patterson and Richard Dilallo

 My Rating: 3/5

I was really hoping for more from this book.  I loved the cover and it really caught my eye and I hadnt’ read any romances from James Patterson in a while since he mostly does his detective series, unfortunately this romance did not live up to his other romances (when he still wrote by himself) like Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas.  It wasn’t what I thought it was going to be, but it was an enjoyable fast read, but don’t be looking for anything amazing because it is lacking.   I wasn’t too involved with the characters and I wasn’t too into the romance either since there really wasn’t much.  All the romance happened in the past and now she is having to choose between three loves.  I had high expectations since I enjoyed his other romances, but this just fell kind of flat for me.  Hope everyone is having great holidays!!

This week’s topic: A Classic

Phantom of the Opera Cover The Phantom of The Opera
Gaston Leroux

 My Rating: 5/5

I love everything Phantom!  I own the musical DVD, both original and movie soundtracks, the book, a bad attempt at a sequel by another author, and I’ve seen the play on stage in London.  This story is a very dark and twisted romance/horror and even though I know the phantom is bad, I just can’t help feeling bad for him, too.  The book was a different kind of read because of the way they spoke back then, which I hadn’t read this kind of writing style before this book, but I still loved it, and I found out there is a whole character that was cut from the book in the musical!  The phantom is still as mysterious as ever and I really love this story.

This week’s topic: A book with a strange name

Perfume Cover Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
Patrick Suskind

 My Rating: 4.5/5

I actually watched the movie before I knew it was even a book, and the movie was not great.  I was so confused at the end and asked myself why I sat through the whole thing for it to end that way.  Being someone who loves to compare books and movies, I read it once I found out it was a book, and the book was sooooo much better, and it explained the bonkers ending.  Even when it was a movie, I thought the title was odd because perfume is a beautiful, sweet smelling thing, and murder is not such a good thing.  My favorite thing about this book is the way the author described scents; it is really fantastic!  It isn’t action packed and it isn’t a speed read, but the way it is written is wonderful and the story is unusual.  Definitely one to give a go if you are looking for something different.

This week’s topic: Favorite Male Protagonist

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
J.K. Rowling

 My Rating: 5/5

That’s easy!  Harry Potter; he’s freaking awesome.  He goes on this huge journey over a 7 year span and changes so much from the first book to the last.  He has great close friends that he would do anything for and awesome wizard powers.  Plus, he is legendary right from the start; he’s The Boy Who Lived. Out of the whole series I would have to say that my favorite is The Goblet of Fire.  It has a lot of action and really cool stuff in it, though the whole series is stupendous!

This week’s topic: A Cute Love Story

 Forgive My Fins
Tera Lynn Childs

 My Rating: 4.5/5

I adore this series!  It is fun and bright and has one of the cutest couples ever.  Quince is really funny, a goofball really, but he knows when to be serious if he needs to be.  Lily is a quirky girl and a fun character.  These two get a bit closer and don’t realize what they have right under their noses. This book is especially good for a light summer read.

This week’s topic: A horror or thriller

 The Langoliers
Stephen King

 My Rating: 4/5

I have only read two book my Stephen King, this one and Thinner.  I really wasn’t impressed at all with Thinner, but I still decided to try another King book, and I chose this one.  To me is wasn’t really scary, but it was a bit suspenseful not knowing what was going on or what would happen.  Plus in my head, the sound the langoliers made was pretty creepy.   I enjoyed this one and even liked the ending.  It was different, unusual and well-written.

This week’s topic: A book with a one word title

 LolitaVladimir Nabokov

 My Rating: 5/5

This is a very good read if you are willing to step out of your comfort zone.  Though the subject is taboo, the writing is amazing and has a superb flow.  The use of alliteration makes the book sound very poetic.  This book was definitely better than I thought it was going to be!
