Courtesy of Booking Through Thursday,
How do you organize/store your books? Do you go through them often? Or do you pretty much just shelve them and then leave them alone until you need them?

I’m a shelver!  I do group them, though.  Currently, I have them grouped by adult, read YA, TBR YA, manga, textbooks and my old books from when I was a kid, like Goosebumps, Animorphs and Christopher Pike.  I am still working on getting my office area unpacked and set up, so they aren’t all on their shelves just yet, but it probably won’t get any more organized than that!

Have you ever read a book after watching the movie/television version only to find that you don’t like the book as much as the adaptation?

Yes, actually, but very rarely does this ever happen.  I can’t even think of enough examples to fill one hand.  One of the biggest ones I can think of is Beastly by Alex Flinn.  I really liked the movie a lot and I had high hopes for the book, but I turned out being disappointed by it because I felt like I was almost reading Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.  For me, the movie was more original than the book; there were just too many similarities to Disney’s version in the book to me!

Do you read the ending before you start a book? Do you ever skip ahead to read the ending?

This is a definite no.  I can’t ever bring myself to read the end before I actually get there.  I have to do everything in order and I can’t skip, and I can’t read the ending before it comes because then it will just ruin everything else for me.  People have ruined book for me before because of telling the ending.  I am the same way with movies and TV shows, I just can’t do it out of order.  I like to find out things and experience them as they happen.  Definitely no skipping or reading ahead for me!

A load of questions to pick from this week!  I am going to answer a few of these (but not all of them).

1. If you had to choose only 3 books to read forever, which ones would you choose? {source}

2. Is there a character that you absolutely love but that you cannot get a good mental picture of? {source}

3. Make a plea for your favorite book. Make others wanna read it! {source}

4. If you could create a soundtrack for a book you’ve read recently, which songs would you use and why? {source}

5. Do you read outside your preferred genre? Has your preferred genre changed? {source}

6. Do you have a favorite book/movie combination? {source}

7. Name a book that you thought you wouldn’t like much, but you ended up loving. {source}

8. If you were Book Czar of the world, is there one book you would like to require every kid to read? {source}

7. A book that I wasn’t sure about liking at first would have to be White Cat by Holly Black.  I wasn’t sure I was going to like it because it isn’t what I normally read, but it still sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a shot and I ended up really loving it.  It was really exciting and much better than I expected, so she won me over 🙂

1. If I had to choose 3 books to read forever….this is a tough one.  I think I would have to say Anna and the French Kiss, Forgive My Fins, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  Anna is the perfect falling in love book and it was one of those that I had to wait a little bit to start reading another book once I was finished because of the warm fuzzy feeling that it left (book hangover).  Forgive My Fins is my favorite mermaid book I have read so far.  It is just so much fun and so bright, plus I love Lily and Quince.  Goblet of Fire is my favorite HP book, plus it’s frickin’ HP, so of course I gotta have one to be able to read forever.  There are so many other great books I would have wanted (Cinder, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Anna Dressed in Blood) but it would drive me crazy not having the sequels to these books!

5. Generally, my preferred genre is paranormal romance, but I do like to read outside of it.  If I don’t, there is no telling what I would miss.  Anna and the French Kiss was the first contemporary I read, and I loved it, and it turned me on to the contemporary genre and Cinder is science fiction and it is one of my absolute favorite books as well.  If I didn’t read outside of my norm, then I never would have been able to read some absolutely wonderful books.

What is the most recent book you purchased, or brought home from the local library? What made you pick it? Have you started reading it, right away, or will you wait for a bit?

I just bought two book on Barnes and Noble online a couple of days ago.  It was the first two books of Mara Dyer.  I haven’t been able to buy to many books recently because of my house repairs breaking my bank, but I had coupons, and I can’t resist the B&N coupons!  I have already read the first book, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, but I am not sure yet when I will get to The Evolution of Mara Dyer since I already have a super long list of stuff to read, plus I am doing NaNoWriMo this month.  But, even though I have to wait to read it, I still am excited to since I enjoyed the first book so much.

Do you ever get crushes on fictional characters? Name one (or a few), and tell what you liked…

Oh, yes indeed!  I think this will probably be true for at least 95% of us (there is always that small percentage that is the exception).  As much as we get into books, how could we not?  Some of my favorites are:

Etienne St. Clair from Anna and the French Kiss:  He is great and I love how the relationship between him and Anna is not instalove and instead builds up and starts as friends.

Sam from Incarnate: He is the most like my real life counterpart, so of course he is a book crush!

Quince from the Fins series: He is just so much fun!  I love how he and Lily pick on each other back and forth.

I recently did a Top Ten Tuesday for book crushes, so if you want to see more of them you can find the post here.  But I guess it is hard to satisfy me or I haven’t read all the right books because I was only able to pick out 8 I really was crazy about!

This week’s musing –courtesy of http://carabosseslibrary.blogspot.com– asks…

Do you have any hobbies outside of reading? Or do you collect anything?

Hmm….I probably have way too many hobbies to keep up with.  Aside from reading, writing and blogging, I also like cross-stitch, photography, genealogy, and scrapbooking.  I am a mild bit of a hoarder, so I try not to go too crazy on collecting things.  When I was younger, I used to collect the TY beanie babies, and I still have them all.  Of course I have a huge collection of books, and since I like to write a lot, I have a ton of pens and journals.  I also collect snowglobes for places I have been (not the cheapy plastic ones, but the actual glass ones), X-Men comics, manga series, Tinkerbell stuff (my boyfriend’s nickname for me is Tinkerbell), foreign coins when I can get them, and toe socks!  I love toe socks!  I was a bit disappointed last year since I couldn’t really find any toe socks.  That is everything that I can think of at  the moment!
