This page is dedicated to my 2012 reading challenges I will be participating in. These challenges allow for crossovers so some of the same books can be on any of the challenges listed. The coming year will be my first ever participation in challenges, so wish me luck and happy reading to other challenge participants! No review for a book you’re curious about? Just send me an email to vmcarswell (at) gmail (dot) com and I’ll let you know what I thought!
So far, I have read 35 books towards my goal of 40 for the year. In the Outdo yourself reading challenge, you commit to reading more books for 2012 than you did 2011, and there are different levels for it.
The levels are:
Getting my heart rate up – Read 1–5 more books
Out of breath – Read 6–10 more books
Breaking a sweat – Read 11–15 more books
I’m on fire! – Read 16+ more books
I am committing to Out of breath! So my goal for 2012 is to read 50 books instead of 40 (I do have a full time job, ya know!), and hopefully I may make it past that. For more details and to sign up for the challenge, click the icon above!

*I’m not sure how these were able to be counted since they have other YA books, but they were on the 2012 debut list!
The 2012 Off The Shelf Challenge is to get the books you own that have been sitting on your shelf (or in your e-reader) off your to-read shelf! Lots of us buy books faster than we can read them, so here a challenge to get those waiting books read. For more details and to sign up click the icon. Below is my list and my level is Tempted (5 books).
1. The Hunger Games – Suzanne Collins
2. Peter Pan – J.M. Barrie
3. Fallen – Lauren Kate
4. Psych Major Syndrome – Alicia Thompson
5. The Notebook – Nicholas Sparks
For the New Authors Challenge, you must read books by authors you’ve never read before. They do not have to be debuting authors, just authors whose work you’ve never tried. Since I have a Debuting Author Challenge, I am going to keep those books separate from this challenge since debuting authors could count for this challenge as well, technically, but I am not going to do that. So I am going to commit to reading at least 15 books by authors I’ve never read before! For more details and to sign up, click the icon above. Below is my list for this challenge.
1. Anna and the French Kiss – Stephanie Perkins
2. Delirium – Lauren Oliver
3. White Cat – Holly Black
4. Chime – Franny Billingsley
5. Shooting Stars – Allison Rushby
6. Angel Burn – L.A. Weatherly
7. Kiss Me Kill Me – Lauren Henderson
8. Jinx – Meg Cabot
9. Switched – Amanda Hocking
10. Freaky Green Eyes – Joyce Carol Oates
11. The Adoration of Jenna Fox – Mary E. Pearson
12. Alice in Zombieland – Gena Showalter
13. Fallen – Lauren Kate
14. Ten – Gretchen McNeil
15. Forbidden – Tabitha Suzuma
16. The Replacement – Brenna Yovanoff

19. Split – Swati Avasthi
20. Psych Major Syndrome – Alicia Thompson
